Flaxseed: limited supplies in Canada

OTTAWA. Traders report that seed supplies are low for sowing in Canada and advise flaxseed farmers to buy as soon as possible. Farmgate prices have declinined.

US buyers are covered

The flaxseed market is relatively calm in Canada at the start of the year. Raw seed prices range nominally lower at CAD 40/bu. Farmers expect the prices for the new crop to range at CAD 24-25/bu. As Rayglen Commodities reports, export demand for flaxseed produced in Canda is down due to fierce competition from the Black Sea Region. While US buyers recently caused the market to firm up, the situation is about to change now as buyers have mainly purchased the supplies they require.
