Flaxseed: larger acreage in Kazakhstan

ASTANA. Kazakh farmers are busy sowing this year's flaxseed crop. The plan is to expand the area compared to 2023. Kazakhstan's exports have declined significantly due to the disappointing 2023 crop.

Buyers stock up

With the introduction of import duties on Russian flaxseed, demand in the EU is increasing, which is also affecting the Kazakh flaxseed market. The Kazakh Grain Union (KGU) estimates the available flaxseed supplies in Kazakhstan at a maximum of 50,000 mt and prices are rising. Commodity prices at origin are currently at EUR 485/mt FCA Kazakhstan.
