NUR-SULTAN. European flaxseed traders currently make very different experiences with their customers. Some of them report...

... a neverending stream of retrievals, while others even considered closing their plants for a short time as their storage capacities were exhausted.

Many factors driving the market

Spot prices for cleaned flaxseed maintain the high level of last week and are traded at EUR 0.60-0.62 per kg DDP Germany. Meanwhile, market players report that commodity prices in the growing countries are maintaining their upward trend. Strong demand from China and decreasing availability are expected to have pushed up the price of brown flaxseed with a 97% purity in Kazakhstan to EUR 0.38-0.40 per kg FCA, last week the price indications were at EUR 0.35-0.36 per kg EXW. The price of Russian commodities is also slightly higher than last week at EUR 0.41-0.42 per kg FCA. However, European retailers' price expectations are significantly lower. A further factor that stirs up export prices is exchange rate fluctuations.

The last remnants are yet to come

In the coming weeks, Kazakh farmers will begin threshing the flaxseed that has been wintering in the fields. Since it cannot usually keep up with the quality of the flaxseed harvested in autumn, it remains to be seen whether the additional quantities will have an impact on the price development.
