Flaxseed: Farmers are churning the rumour mill

LODZ. Rumours are currently circulating on the market that the farmers in growing countries such as Russia and Kazakhstan want to sell the remaining stocks from the 2016 crop at a higher price.

They responded to enquiries with prices that are 15-20 EUR/mt higher than usual. However, the market still remains unfazed by this information and the prices, both for raw seeds and cleaned flaxseed, are maintaining the same level as last week. Traders are expecting a stable to slightly rising trend for the next few weeks.

Gap-filler sought
Customers who are now turning to Polish seed cleaning plants with enquiries for prompt deliveries now have more luck again. For many of them, the demand onslaught has meanwhile abated, which translates into more free capacities. Suppliers are currently mostly busy with fulfilling ongoing contracts, and there are hardly any spot requests. In Russia, the seeding of the 2017 flaxseed crop is slowly starting, but in Kazakhstan, farmers are still waiting for a bit.
