KIEV. With the market having witnessed a steep decline in production and firece competition from Russia and Kazakhstan prospects are anything but encouraging for the Ukraine. The prices on offer may, however, provide some stimulation.

Rough times in the Ukraine

Times are hard for the flaxseed market in the Ukraine. Last year, the market witnessed a steep decline in production and the country is unable to compete with Russia or Kzakhstan in the export market. Things looked more encouraging in 2016/2017 when production reached a record . In 2018, however, the market witnessed enormous setbacks. Market players hope that 2019/2020 will mark a turning point. Although it is too early for exact production estimates, the prices may improve the market situation immensely. The prices for brown flaxseed with a 99% purity currently range at EUR 0.32-0.39 per kg ex works.
