AYDIN. Traders urge buyers to wait. In the meantime, the International Dried Fruits and Nuts Council has published its latest estimates.

Traders in Turkey reckon that the current price levels are anything but attractive and have urged buyers to wait for the new crop. The current farmgate prices are ranging around 16 TRY/kg. The first offers for dried figs should be available by the middle of August once production can be better estimated.

The preliminary estimates of the International Dried Fruit and Nuts Council see the dried fig production in Turkey at 72,000 mt - basically the same as last year. Contrary to this, global production is expected to decrease by 2.7% to 128,000 mt.

Turkey has so far exported more than 58,000 mt of dried figs this season, 6.6% less than last year (Oct-Jul 2015/16; 62,195 mt).
