AYDIN. The Taris is said to have started buying the first volumes of dried figs from the farmers on behalf of the TMO. Although a base price has now been issued, it is still unclear how much the organisations intend to purchase. Meanwhile, a sharp increase in the exports of fig paste has been noted.

Base price in favour of traders?

At TRY 16-18 per kg the base price falls below the expectations previously voiced by traders. Market players reckon that farmers will by no means be satisfied with these prices. The price level will rather afford suppliers the opportunity to privode attractive export prices, even if the lira should climb in value. Lerida no 2 are trading lower at USD 4.40 per kg FOB Izmir and no. 4 at USD 4.10 USDper kg. The prices for diced dried figs currently range at USD 2.30 per kg FOB.
