Dried figs: shortfall in production

AYDIN. The fig harvest is making good progress in Turkey. Growers are very much hoping for higher dried fig prices in 2021/2022. Although prospects are highly encouraging in Turkey, the INC has taken a different view.

Growers hope for higher prices

Turkey has succeeded in topping last year's dried fig exports. As 743 mt of dried figs and dried fig products were shipped overseas last week, which is 250 mt up on the same week last year, total exports for the season now range at 63,294 mt and thereby exceed last year's volume by 200 mt. Demand remains surprisingly high, especially with regard to this season's high prices. Although prices range much lower than at the start of the season, they are much higher than last year.
