Dried figs: production is up

TEHRAN. As much as 95% of Iran’s dried figs are produced in Fars province, mainly in the four cities Estahban, Darab, Neyriz and Jahrom. Fresh fig production is expected to rise in Estahban this year. Suppliers aim to drive up exports.

Rise in production in Estahban

While 18,000 mt of figs were harvested in Estahban last year, the figure is set to exceed 23,000 mt this year. Fig processing and packaging is key to employment in the region and market players are keen to promote international branding of the figs produced in Fars province. The region exported figs worth USD 45 million last year.
