Dried figs: Prices start at EUR 4.80 per kg in Iran

AYDIN/TEHRAN. Iran is the fifth largest global producer with annual production ranging at 70,000-80,000 metric tonnes. Although most fresh figs produced in the country are detined for national consumption, dried figs are, nevertheless, exported.

Setbacks in Iran

Acreage ranges at 58,000 hectares in Iran and the main producing provinces are Fars and Lorestan. The dry weather conditions over the last few years, have, however, impacted production, older tress are particalarly affected. In addition, it has been reported that in the first months after the New Year celebrations in March there were severe floods in Lorestan. Some orchards are said to have been completely destroyed.
