Dried figs: Massive quality problems

AYDIN. The new export season has officially started. However, the mood in Aydin is dampened by massive crop damages.

 

40% are not suitable for export

Hail and rain have torn up many figs in the Aydin growing region and caused water damage to the fruit. According to current estimates, the crop will amount to 80,000 mt. However, 40% of the fruits (approx. 30,000 mt) are not suitable for export. As Turkey normally exports far more than 45,000 mt per year, a shortage is virtually inevitable.

Most suppliers are reluctant to circulate price lists. In addition, they only make offers for supplies that they already have in stock. Market players agree that prices will
