IRAN. Poldokhtar’s black figs are well known for their high quality. This season has, however, been a disaster in terms of production. Meanwhile, the prices have taken a rather surprising turn.

Revised production estimates

Poldokhtar in the Lorestan province is Iran’s production hub for black figs. Due to the lack of cold storage facilities the figs produced here are shipped to other regions across Iran and exported to other countries without been packed in Lorestan. Floods, however, hit the region this year and production estimates have been revised downwards from 28,000 metric tonnes to 25,000 metric tonnes. The gardens are still in bad shape and many roads between the gardens have been destroyed.
