Dried figs: hike in exports

TEHRAN. Iran’s dried fig exports more than doubled on last year between March and August. In Khafr county in Fars Province monthly exports were even 322% up on August on last year. Harvesting is well underway here.

Exports 322% up in Kharf

Growers are busy harvesting rainfed figs on 5,300 ha and irrigated figs on 270 ha in Kharf. Average yields range at 1 mt/ha and this year’s production is estimated at 5,500 mt. Although the county only ranks third in Fars Province in terms of production, exports rose sharply in August. While Kharf only exported 96 mt of dried figs worth USD 238,000 between 23 July and 22 August 2020, exports surged to 395 mt worth USD 1.194 million in August 2021.
