Dried figs: exports to start as late as October

AYDIN. Trade representatives have set the 6 October as the official date for the export season of dried figs to start in Turkey. Issue is that heat has caused severe damage. Official production estimates are still, however, to be issued.

Heat is an issue

Members of the Exporters' Association, the Ministry of Commerce and of the Turkish Exporters' Assembly (TİM) have agreed that the export season will start on 6 October. This late start should give the fruits enough time to ripen as climatic conditions were not exactly ideal this year. The Ministry of Commerce, however, still needs to approve of the date, which should happen in the next few days.
