AYDIN. Fig farmers in Aydin were already able to start harvesting their table fruit in the second week of July. Due to the high temperatures, the harvest for dried fig production should not be long in coming.

Unfair competition

The recent high demand for dried figs on the domestic market has caused prices in Turkey to rise to around TRY 400/kg. However, there are no longer any free positions for the export market due to the quality.

High temperatures and little rainfall affect the development of the fruit, and while they ripen faster, they tend to remain small. Whilst the quality is reportedly good, the yield is suffering from the consequences of the high temperatures. Experts reckon that, under these circumstances, harvesting can start as early as the beginning
