Dried figs: drastic shift in price

TEHRAN/AYDIN. Black fig production is up in Lorestan, which is one of the leading provinces for dried fig production in Iran. This spells good news for buyers in Europe. Exporters in Turkey, meanwhile, have high expectations in the second half of the season.

20% rise in production in Lorestan

Iran's annual fig production ranges at 58,000 mt. As figs are cultivated on an area of 1,600 ha in Lorestan, the province is one of the most important production hubs in the country. At 30,000 mt black fig production is around 20% up on last year. Favourable weather conditions and an increase in acreage have driven up production. Figs from Lorestan are either consumed domestically or shipped overseas, mainly to Europe with Turkey, Austria and Hungary featuring as top export destinations.
