Dried figs: difficult market situation

AYDIN. Although the Tariş and the TMO have signed a joint protocol for purchasing of dried figs, it is unclear how long purchasing will continue. The exporters in Turkey reportedly busy meeting existing contracts. However, the market situation is rather difficult.

Difficult market situation

Market players report that that dried fruit exporters in Turkey are currently busy meeting contracts concluded at the beginning of the season  The current prices have, however, caused enquiries for new contracts to stall.. Before the state decied to intervene the prices on the free market had declined to TRY 12-13 per kg. Now the TMO has introduced a much higher base prices of TRY 16-18 per kg. Lerida figs, no 2 are trading higher again this week at USD 4.50 USD per kg FOB Izmir, whereas no. 4 lerida figs continue at USD 4.10 per kg.
