Dried figs: Demand has prompted price surge

AYDIN. High demand has prompted the authorities in Turkey to consider new ways of increasing acreage. Demand has also pushed up prices by as much as USD 1,000 mt.

 

More dried figs are required

Turkish media report that about 50% of the damaged forest area in the province of Aydin is to be opened for the cultivation of dried figs. Fig trees are to be planted up to 700 metres above sea level. In this way, acreage may be easily expanded. Last year, the market witnessed how much damage rain can create during the drying phase.
