AYDIN. Market players reckon that pollination was successfully completed in the second round. This leads...

... to positive production prospects; under good conditions, a similarly good result as last year is possible. In 2019, Turkey produced almost 90,000 metric tonnes of dried figs. Some euphoric voices even consider a possible result of up to 100,000 metric tonnes for 2020. During the INC webinar in June, the estimates reached only 75,000 metric tonnes.

The weather in the coming weeks will have a decisive influence on the development of the crop. In the past, there have also been quality problems during the drying phase, such as a high aflatoxin load due to continuous rainfall.

Since the start of the season, 63,190 metric tonnes of dried figs and dried fig products have been shipped overseas, almost 9,000 metric tonnes more than last year at this time. The weekly export figures are 496 metric tonnes, which is less than the 571 metric tonnes in the same period last year.
