TEHRAN. China is by far the most important export destination for Iran’s dried figs. Traders state that as much as 90% of the volumes shipped are destined for East Asia. The possible revival of the nuclear deal coupled with hopes of the lifting of the US sanctions on Iran have also impacted prices.

China holds the lion’s share

Iran shipped 4,266 mt of dried figs worth USD 12.91 million overseas between 21 March and 22 September. Average export prices ranged at USD 3.02/kg in this six-month period. China and Vietnam are the most important export destinations by far. East Asia accounts for 90% of Iran’s dried fig exports, of which China holds the lion’s share of 43% and Vietnam of around 42%. Traders state that the volumes shipped to Vietnam are then mainly reexported to China due to customs checks.
