Dried apricots: market in deadlock

MALATYA. High farmgate price are preventing the quotations for dried apricots to decline to more normal levels despite demand being low. The prices for unsulphured dried apricots have basically exploded.

Turkey's dried apricots market is witnessing a deadlock. Export demand has come to a standstill and suppliers refrain from stocking up. Normally such a situation as early as this in the season would prompt farmers to reduce their prices to be able to sell, but things are totally different this year. Trouble is that production costs have surged rendering it impossible for them to sell at lower rates without a loss.
