Dried apricots: growers reckon with higher prices

MALATYA. The prices for dried apricots have risen sharply again in Turkey this week. Not only are farmgate prices up but also export prices. Prices are expected to continue to pick up.

Sharp rise in prices

As producers were able to obtain high prices for unsulphured apricots in Turkey last year production is up this year. This, however, has an impact on sulphured apricots. To make matters worse spot market demand is also up as exports range much higher than last year this season so far. Although small farms have already sold their supplies, other growers can afford to wait. They are reckoning with prices as high as TRY 40/kg. Farmgate prices currently range at TRY 31-36/kg.
