Dried apricots: excellent export figures

MALATYA. The demand for dried apricots and apricot kernels from Malatya is currently very high and the export season has got off to a promising start. A shortage of labour is still a problem in the province.

The Turkish dried apricot market is largely unchanged from last week and prices remain stable, with one exception: unsulphured dried apricots of the Jumbo variety are becoming more expensive, as high demand is meeting limited stocks. Local market players are generally reporting good demand both domestically and overseas. One problem is the lack of qualified labour in Malatya; after the devastating earthquakes last year, many residents have not returned to the province.
