MALATYA. Producers in Turkey are worried because the apricot trees are starting the flowering phase earlier than usual, increasing the risk of damage from night frost. Exporters are also facing various difficulties.

Turkish market players report that the flowering phase of the apricot trees is imminent and will thus start about two weeks too early. This is a concern for farmers, as night frost in March or April can cause considerable damage to the flowers. Prices for the smaller no 3 and no 4 varieties, which had recently risen dramatically due to low availability, have now stabilised and are at the same level as last week.
