MALATYA. Due to the depreciation of the Turkish lira the export prices for dried apricots have fallen below last year’s level.

Price rise expected
Farmgate prices have reached a level of 11-16 TRY/kg. Although the export prices have fallen significantly over the last two weeks due to exchange rate fluctuations, they have now stabilised.

Despite the official production estimate of 89,000 mt for dried apricots (unofficial estimates predict 100,000-110,000 mt), some offers for Turkish dried apricots are 350 USD/mt cheaper than last year. Dried apricots, no. 2, are trading on a level of 2,650-2,900 USD/mt FOB for prompt delivery, depending on supplier. Market players reckon that prices will rise in the second half of the season due to the smaller production. At present, all sizes are still available in ample volumes.

Exports down by 11.7%
In the first month of the new apricot season, 7,546 mt of dried apricots were exported, almost 1,000 mt or 11.7% less than at this time last year. The export volume of last season (95,000 mt) will probably not be reached in 2018/19 if the production estimates of 89,000 mt prove true.
