MALATYA. The warm temperatures in the growing regions mean that the apricot trees will enter the flowering phase in the next few days. A new project is to investigate the effects of climate change on apricot cultivation in Malatya.

Jumbo varieties are becoming scarce

Spring seems to have arrived in Malatya and growers are very happy with the temperatures, which are 4-7°C at night and up to 24°C during the day. The apricot trees should start to blossom within the next ten days; flowering then usually lasts until mid-April. It is then particularly important that there are no further night frosts, as the risk of this is particularly high until the end of March. So far, however, the prospects are encouraging.
