MANILA. The exact impact on production caused by the earthquake in the Western Pacific still needs to be assessed. Market players in Europe are concerned as the Phillipines have been especially hard hit. As shipments are delayed this will most certainly impact supplies.

Delivery delays

A heavy earthquake shook the Western Pacific towards the end of last week. The epicentre was located in the south of the Philippines, near the city of Davos. Market players report that the processing factories have closed for the time being, which will delay the loading of coconut flakes. Whether and to what extent the crop has been damaged is not yet known. However, it will still take some time before the processors will be able to produce at full capacity again. Many workers are busy with rebuilding factories for the time being.
