Desiccated coconuts: Exports from the Philippines rise by more than 50%

MANILA/JAKARTA. In the first four months of the year, the export volume of desiccated coconuts rose by more than half.

Desiccated coconuts trade in range of EUR 1.30 per kg

Contrary to expectations, the supply squeeze of coconuts or did not have a significant impact on the prices of desiccated coconuts. Supplies are satisfactory and prices have mainly stabilised. Although demand is expected to rise again very soon, market players do not reckon that prices will rise as well. In Europe, the prices for desiccated coconuts from Indonesia with a high fat content range at EUR 1.30 per kg DDP Germany.

March exports have doubled

The Philippines exported as much as 42,214 metric tonnes of desiccated coconuts between January and April, nearly 54% more than last year. This season's much lower prices generated strong interest in the export market. In February alone the export volume rose by 71% to 10,688 metric tonnes. In March, the marekt even witnessed a rise in exports of more than 125% over March 2018.
