SOFIA. The higher expected output is already exerting pressure of prices. Farmers write invoice, refusing to postpone sales!

BULGARIA. Recent showers interrupted the pace of harvest in the fields where it has not yet ended. Fearing prices might slide further on a bearish trend, farmers have already written invoices for grains that are either in the midst of harvest or have not yet been harvested and collected in their storage facilities. Expectations are for a bumper output this year – the great majority coming from farmers within the North regions of the country.

Corn: The North holds the fort

Farmers from the North regions harvest the highest corn output on a yearly basis. A case in point, during harvest 2016-17, output within the North regions accounted to 94.81% of total aggregate production – 2,226,094 mt, according to the Ministry of Agriculture. The highest production is usually combined from the corn fields within the Northwest region.

Favorable weather conditions before harvest – weekly rains – within the North regions maintained the so necessary water reserves in the soil. Since adequate moisture was present within the different layers of the earth, the yield this year is stronger. Exactly because of the higher yield – as high as 10 mt/ha in some fields within the North – this year’s output is expected to be at least by 20% higher than that of last year.
