NEW DELHI/OTTAWA. Possible US tariffs on Canadian chickpeas are unsettling suppliers and dampening trade in Canada. In India, prices have fallen again, but this could soon come to an end.

Indian prices could soon rise again

Indian chickpea prices have been on a regular downward trend since August and have fallen again this week. High stocks in particular are putting pressure on the market, although the new crop will not arrive for around three and a half months. After prices had risen sharply at the beginning of the year due to good export demand, there was a subsequent fall in prices due to the increased production of 3.1 million mt (previous year: 1.8 million mt).
