Although this might sound as an article for "The road conditions" section, the followers of the news from Serbia connected with the raspberry price topic, will easily grasp what it is about. Namely, dissatisfied raspberry producers continue to make havoc in every way which could draw some publicity.
The current price for frozen raspberry quality "original" is between 130 and 150 RSD/kg, which is roughly 1,1 to 1,25 EUR/kg. What the producers are used to is that the price of frozen original increases in average round 20% comparing to the price during the picking season. However, the price remained the same as the price for the fresh raspberry, and since the producers usually have small coolstore facilities near their houses, it further means that, following their interpretation, they will be at "even greater loss than if they sold raspberry in fresh condition, without freezing".
So, the only way to solve this problem and to achieve the dreamt price of 200 RSD/kg (1,67 EUR/kg), was to block the main road/highway to Montenegro, near the town of Prijepolje, Republic of Serbia, which is in the wider center of raspberry production. Not even the heavy rain and cold weather on 9th December day, could stop this protest, which expectedly, lost its breath not long after it started- about 1 hour afterwards.
During that short period, the raspberry producers announced forming of so called "National raspberry council" which would take care of their common ground. Taking into account that not even The President of Serbia, Ministry of Agriculture, numerous protests and various hunger games could not convince, on one side, the raspberry producers and, on the other, raspberry processors and exporters to change their policies, perhaps this announced body would bring the reconciliation and sufficient dose of conscience, so that even producers understand that Serbia and its processors are the inseparable part of the global market, which has its rules and demands.
