Butter: low supplies drive EU market

KEMPTEN/BRUSSELS. Fresh butter is in short supply in Germany. EU quotations have skyrocketed. EU exports are, however, doing quite well.

Fresh butter in short supply

Euronext futures have exceeded the EUR 8,000/mt (USD 8,931/mt) mark. Contrary to this, Global Dairy Trade quotations range 1.7% lower for butter at USD 6,546/mt (EUR 5,884/mt). Bulk butter quotations have also surged in Germany and have reached a new high of EUR 8.00-8.30/kg (USD 8.93-9.26/kg) at the Southern German Butter and Cheese Exchange in Kempten.
