DALIAN/KYIV. Smaller acreages are causing a significant drop in production in Ukraine. Meanwhile, the EU was able to increase its total imports by 12% thanks to increased shipments from Kazakhstan.

Smaller acreage in Ukraine

In addition to the availability of the new crop, buckwheat imports from overseas are also putting pressure on prices in the Chinese market, as imports have risen significantly this year. This is due to the significantly more favourable prices than those of the domestic goods. Offers for hulled buckwheat currently stand at USD 730/mt FOB Dalian, while prices of USD 810/mt FOB are being asked for organic buckwheat.

In Ukraine, the buckwheat harvest is largely complete, with 87,500 ha harvested, 98% of the total acreage. Thanks to ave
