Buckwheat: spotlight on Kazakhstan and Ukraine

DALIAN/KYIV. As rains prompted harvest delays for buckwheat in China the crop is still arriving. EU imports are up with Kazakhstan and Ukraine posing as attractive alternatives for Russia.

New crop arriving in China and harvesting 95% complete in Ukraine

Rains have caused harvest delays in China and arrivals are still gaining pace. With the new crop becoming available prices should decline. Cheap imports are also weighing on the market.

At 84,300 ha harvesting is 95% complete in Ukraine. As average yields range at 1.44 mt/ha, preliminary production amounts to 121,800 mt. One year ago 109,400 ha had been harvested and yields also ranged at 1.44 mt/ha, whereas preliminary prodcution was a higher 157,800 mt.
