Buckwheat: price trend set to continue

WARSAW. As market players report, the high demand for vegetable protein sources is prompting many farmers in Eastern Europe to switch to pulses. Frequently also at the expense of buckwheat.

Prices exceed EUR 1.00 per kg

Hulled unroasted buckwheat is trading at EUR 1.05 kg EXW Poland as prices continue to rise. This trend is set to continue. Due to the high demand for vegetable protein sources, the cultivation of pulses was subsidised in Poland last year. The prompted a decline in acreage for buckwheat of 30%.Germany nearly imported 600 metric tonnes between August and October 2019, a decrease of 15% since last year and a decline of 40% since 2017.
