DALIAN/BRUSSELS. Despite moderate demand, prices for Chinese buckwheat remain largely stable. Meanwhile, the EU has significantly increased its imports in the first half of the current season.

Sales pressure without price adjustments

Chinese buckwheat farmers are keen to sell their crop, while traders are more reluctant to build up stocks. At the same time, higher production costs are preventing prices from being lowered significantly to make them more attractive to buyers. Apart from slight fluctuations, prices are therefore stable and currently stand at USD 730/mt FOB Dalian for conventional buckwheat, while prices of USD 810/mt FOB are being asked for organic buckwheat. Due to the overall low demand, imports to China have also declined.
