EU imports up

Peru may not be able to compete with the world’s leading producing country Bolivia, yet the country’s shipments have recorded a notable rise of 15% to the EU this year. Imports from Bolivia have risen by a more nominal 5%. Shipments from Brazil have flatlined. Imports from other countries such as Chile, the USA and Canada have also risen by astonishing amounts. Contrary to this, shipments from the UK have declined by 35%.

Total EU imports stand at 13,816 mt worth EUR 86.627 million (USD 90.968 million). This is not only 6% up in terms of volume but also a sharp 25% up in terms of value on the 13,052 mt worth EUR 69.100 million (USD 72.563 million) imported between January and the first week of December 2023. The average import price stands at EUR 6.27/kg (USD 6.58/kg), which may be 19% up on the EUR 5.29/kg (USD 5.56/kg) recorded last year but ranges 12% lower than the average price of EUR 7.14/kg (USD 7.50/kg) paid in 2022. Germany presently accounts for 44% (38,190 mt) of all EU imports, followed by the Netherlands with 35% (30,710 mt) and Spain with a much smaller 8% (6,640 mt).
