CHRUDIM. Drought has apparently caused severe damages. Market players are shocked.

Drought produces severe impact

The harvest started a couple of weeks ago and yields look poor. Many plants contain as much as 70% less seeds than normal. In addition to this, rain has temporarily interrupted the harvest. There is, however, also reason for optimism since the famers are next going to tackle the fields that were less exposed to the drought.

Prices of 1.50 EUR/kg are more realistic

It is next to impossible for traders in the Czech Republic to provide offers. The problem is that the farmers are refusing to sell attempting drive up prices to a level of 1.70-2.00 EUR/kg. Market players, however, reckon that that FCA prices of 1.50 EUR/kg are more realistic. The cheap market prices of the last 18 months cannot apparently be maintained.
