Blue poppy seeds: Traders are reluctant to sell

CHRUDIM. Offers are hardly provided and only a very few traders are prepared to name prices in the Czech Republic. Limited supplies and high prices dominate the market.

 

Production set to increase over last year

Sufficient rain and sunshine have fostered ideal growing conditions over the last few weeks, which should generate good yields. Exact figures on acreage have, however, still to be announced.

Contrary to expectations, market players now also reckon that the harvest will start very soon, either towards the end of July or at the beginning of August. If acreage remains on the same level as last year’s 25,000 ha and yields are above average the market could witness an increase in production over last
