CHRUDIM. The weather is continuing to put a spoke in the wheel for Czech poppy seed farmers this week as well, and traders are using this to their own advantage.

Rain creates sales opportunities
Rainfall and wet fields are still delaying sowing, which should have already started early last week. This is enabling traders to keep their contract prices for 2018/19 at the level of 1.65 EUR/kg DDP Germany for the time being. Farmers can still prepare for additional volumes and thus larger acreage; the suppliers will raise their prices for the 2018 blue poppy seed crop, at the latest when sowing has been completed, to 1.80 EUR/kg DDP Germany.
