Blue poppy seeds: Relief is in sight

CHRUDIM/ANKARA. Prices have peaked over the last few weeks. Now it seems that some relief is in sight with offers being made at prices below 4.00 EUR/kg. This season’s high prices are stirring some concern in the market.

 

Does that mean we have already seen the worst?
Despite an increase in acreage, adverse weather conditions have led to a more than 25% smaller crop in the Czech Republic. Growers are seizing the opportunity to holding back their raw seeds. According to traders, some growers are demanding as much as 100 CZK/kg (approximately 3.88 EUR/kg) for their poppy seeds.
