Blue poppy seeds: rain hampers harvest progress in the Czech Republic

CHRUDIM/BUDAPEST. Due to unfavourable weather conditions, the poppy seed harvest cannot progress at the planned pace. Market players also fear that these circumstances will have a negative impact on quality.

Concerns about low quality

Market players are still reporting rainfall, which is slowing down the harvesting process. In addition, farmers had already started harvesting late after delays in sowing. Now there is great concern that the quality of the poppy seeds will suffer under these unfavourable conditions. So far, only small quantities of the new crop are available and much of what has already been harvested has a high moisture content. This could lead to further problems.
