Blue poppy seeds: quality may become an issue

CHRUDIM. Poppy seed harvesting has been completed in the Czech Republic. Many are, however, not happy with the quality of the seeds. Arrivals are only expected to pick up in two to three weeks.

Too many weeds

As rain delayed harvesting by two weeks the plants were exposed to high humidity, which allowed weeds to spread. As it is difficult to seperate the debris caused by these weeds from the plants many farmers are anything but happy with the quality of the crop. Traders, in addition, reckon that poppy seed arrivals will only pick up in two to three weeks. Issue is that cleaning facilities are still busy with other crops at present.
