Blue poppy seeds: processors largely dependent on imports

BUDAPEST/CHRUDIM. Shipments from the Czech Republic range on a similar level as in 2017/2018. Processors in Hungary largely depend on imports this year.

Shipments to Hungary rise by 400%

The Czech Republic shipped more than 2,500 metric tonnes of poppy seeds overseas in November 2019. In the first four months of the 2019/2020 season, Total exports range at 9,359 metric tonnes in the first four months of the season. This is an increase of 24% over 2018/2019 and comes close to the 9,500 metric tonnes shipped in 2017/2018. Russia retains its position as top export destination. Shipments to other countries such as Austria, Poland and Germany have also risen by 10% on average over last year.
