Blue poppy seeds: official cultivation forecast looks gloomy

CHRUDIM. Market players had been waiting a long time, and now the Czech Statistical Office has finally published its cultivation forecast for the 2022 poppy seed crop. The figures, however, hardly brought any relief. The market is still dominated by uncertainty.

Poppy seed cultivation declines by 40%

On Monday, the Czech Statistical Office published the long-awaited cultivation forecast. Previously, market players had repeatedly spoken of different figures, but they all agreed that the acreage would be significantly lower than in 2021. Last year, poppies were grown on almost 44,000 ha in the Czech Republic, and moderate yields per hectare ensured the highest crop in recent years. However, there were repeated reports that the quality was not consistently convincing.
