ANKARA/CHRUDIM. A considerable decline in imports to Germany has been recorded for this season so far. Curiously, however, the number of supplying countries has been cut by half.

Imports decline by 20%

Germany has only imported 1,120 metric tonnes of poppy seeds since the official start of the season at the beginning of August. This is more than 20% less than last year at this time. The data issued by the Federal Statistical Office of Germany also shows that the number of supplier countries has roughly gone down by half. Although the imports from the Czech Republic have recovered nominally over last year, imports are still 200 metric tonnes down on 2017 (Aug-Sep 2017: 603 mt). The average import price has declined by 14% to EUR 2.46 per kg.
