CHRUDIM. The situation remains tense in the blue poppy seed market. Potential buyers need to be prepared to pay unaffordable prices. Some are even trying to obtain blue poppy seeds in China.

2019 is to be a super year

Some market players from Poland have tried to buy cheaper seeds in China. Their mission was anything but a success. China has almost exclusively cultivated white poppy seeds, which the country has already sold to India. Traders in China are, however, certain that blue poppy seeds will be grown in the country next year. This year’s high prices and crop damages will most certainly prompt a surge in production in 2019. According to the Czech Statistical Office as little as 14,000 mt of poppy seeds were harvested this year
