CHRUDIM. Market players are eagerly awaiting the official cultivation data for this summer. A decline in production is already expected, but speculation is rife that sowing may have been even lower than previously thought.

Farmers exercise restraint

According to market players, demand for Czech blue poppy seeds is still above average. However, as stocks are running low at the same time and farmers are enjoying this luxury situation and holding back their goods, prices are also continuing to rise. The old crop is almost sold out and according to traders there are still about 1,000 mt of poppy seeds available on the Czech market. Blue poppy seeds with less than 20 ppm morphine are currently traded for EUR 2.41/kg FCA Czech Republic.
