Blue poppy seeds: acreage in the Czech Republic larger than expected

CHRUDIM. Until now, market players had reckoned that poppy seed sowing in the Czech Republic should be comparable to last year. In fact, the Czech Statistical Office even confirmed an increase in cultivation of around 9%.

Acreage increased by 9%

Market players had expected an acreage of 40,000 ha, which would be similar to 2020. In its first sowing report for the 2021 poppy seed crop, the Czech Statistical Office now even announced an increase in acreage by 9% to around 43,900 ha. “The decrease of sowing areas of rape and cereals made space for other crops.
