MALATYA. Exporters of Turkish dried apricots are putting their money on Russia, although exports were kind of sobering in the first few weeks.

With a present count of 946 mt, Russia manages to make just eighth place of the most important importers of Turkish apricots. Trade relations between the two countries are slowly warming up. Turkish suppliers see mainly a buyer of dried apricots of second-rate quality in Russia.

Compared to the previous year, the USA has reduced its imports by a slim fourth of what they were, but they are still holding first place in imports. France takes second place, and Germany claims third place.

It can only get better
Since many traders are at the SIAL, it is very quiet on the Turkish market this week, and prices are holding last week’s level. The market could come into motion in the next few weeks, should contracts be entered into on the fair. So far, trading activity has been curbed by lack of buying interest, and the farmers’ wish to obtain higher prices for their produce.
